Microneedling Q & A
What is Microneedling?
Collagen declines in supply within your skin over time. Microneedling is designed to combat this. It’s a minimally invasive procedure that your provider performs on your skin in a single office visit at Enhance MD Body & Skin Clinic, or over the course of several sessions with some healing time between them, depending on your skin type.
Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, works by creating minuscule injuries across your skin’s surface with a matrix of extremely fine sterile needles. These controlled injuries trigger the skin’s natural repair processes, promoting collagen and elastin production.
Beyond collagen production alone, microneedling gives your skin the perfect opportunity to absorb nutrients, serums, and other products that will boost its health. Enhance MD Body & Skin Clinic offers microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to infuse your skin with nourishing growth factors when it can benefit from them most.
What will my skin look like after microneedling?
Your skin will initially need a chance to heal after the procedure, but this won’t take long. In fact, your skin will heal after the first 1-3 days. Then, the collagen growth continues within. You’ll be able to see improvements a couple of weeks after each microneedling session.
Some of the most highly sought-after benefits of microneedling include:
- Fewer scars
- Smaller pores
- Less dullness and dryness
- Improved tightness and fewer wrinkles
- Less sun damage
- A more even skin tone
- A radiant glow
Coupling microneedling with a professionally guided skin care routine will make your results stick around for a long time. Dr. Rosario and her team can evaluate your skin and offer skin care product recommendations that work well with your skin type.
What should I expect during microneedling treatments?
Knowing what to expect before any medical procedure helps you feel more confident going in, no matter how benign the treatment may be. With microneedling, some people worry that the needles will make the procedure painful or hard to tolerate. Luckily, this is not the case.
Your provider applies a topical anesthetic that will reach deep into your skin so you won’t feel the shallow needle pinpricks. The needles are fine enough that you probably won’t even see the micro-injuries when your procedure ends. The process itself takes about 30 minutes, and the anesthetic cream lasts for the entire duration.
If you add PRP to your microneedling, you’ll need a blood draw before you start. Dr. Rosario removes a sample of blood from your arm and processes it in a centrifuge to extract platelets and plasma full of growth factors. Then, she applies the fluid to your skin while the needlepoints are fresh so your skin can absorb it.
Most minor skin issues will improve with microneedling. To see if you’re a good candidate, call Enhance MD Body & Skin Clinic for an appointment or schedule online today.
