What are wrinkle relaxers?

Wrinkle relaxers are neuromodulator injectables. There are a lot of uses for wrinkle relaxers in medicine, but by far, their most well-known use is their cosmetic application for fine lines on the face. Botox and Dysport work well against wrinkles because of their main ingredient, a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin. When placed in certain muscles in minuscule doses, botulinum toxin stops the muscles from receiving the motor nerve impulses that cause them to contract. How are wrinkle relaxer injections performed?

Dr. Rosario injects wrinkle relaxers in her comfortable office at Enhance MD Body & Skin Clinic during a brief outpatient visit. The needle she uses is very thin, so you’ll feel little, if any discomfort. She may also offer you some form of numbing agent beforehand, like ice or topical anesthesia.

The exact number of injections you need depends on the depth of the targeted wrinkles and how many of them you want to treat. You’ll start to notice a difference 1-3 days after your appointment, with the final effect settling in within two weeks.

To make sure you don’t spread the product into muscles where it doesn’t belong, you should avoid strenuous exercise and rubbing your face for about 24 hours following your Botox or Dysport injections. You should also remain upright and refrain from lying down for a few hours after treatment. Besides these small aftercare considerations, you can go back to your usual activities right away.
