The Ultimate Self Care Guide

Consistent Self Care is Vital for Overall Wellbeing

If you’ve ever taken a ride on an airplane, then you’ve probably heard the safety instruction that is announced before every flight: “In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, oxygen masks will automatically descend from the ceiling. Grab the mask, and pull it over your face. If you have children traveling with you, secure your mask before assisting with theirs.” The same principle behind those safety directives, which is to take care of yourself first so you can better assist others, also applies to your mental and physical health. Practicing Self Care is crucial to achieve and maintain overall wellbeing, and luckily, it’s easy to incorporate into your daily routine!

Stressed Out?

The increasingly busy world that we live in comes with quite a bit of stress. Though stress is generally an unavoidable part of everyday life, consistently high-stress levels can negatively impact your ability to function in the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life. According to the American Institute of Stress, 77% of U.S. adults experience negative impacts on their physical health due to stress, and 73% reported that stress negatively impacts their mental health. Self Care is a crucial component in minimalizing the harmful impacts of a challenging stress level.

Get Quality Sleep.

To look, feel, and perform on top of your game, getting adequate sleep is essential. It is recommended that the average adult should get somewhere between 7-9 hours of sleep per night. Insufficient sleep can lead to poor judgment, moodiness, and sometimes even minor health issues. We all have those nights where we’re either too wired up or too stressed to sleep, but there are countless natural sleep aids available today.

Write it Down.

Neglecting to express stressors and life struggles often leads to numerous bad situations and experiences. Confiding in a trusted individual about stressful emotions isn’t always possible. The process of journaling provides an outlet for stressful thoughts to reside in rather than taking up space in your mind. Once expressed, these stressful thoughts and feelings tend to lose their intensity and allow for a calmer state of being.

Move Your Body.

Exercise is a conventionally known aspect of reaching overall wellbeing. Especially if stressed, though, having enough self-motivation to do an extensive exercise can be difficult. Luckily, anything as small as going for a walk or stretching your body proves to increase blood flow, dopamine levels and even burn a few calories! Moving your body is taking care of your body.

Pamper Yourself!

It is common to forget about your own needs and desires when responsible for multiple people, places, and things. It is no crime to take some time to do some nice things for yourself, and as we said before, it benefits not only yourself but those around you! Taking time to do simple things like making your favorite tea, lighting your favorite candle, listening to soothing music, doing a face mask, or taking a relaxing bath are great simple favors you can do for yourself. It’s also important to unplug from social media and the internet for even 10 minutes a day to allow yourself to assess your needs and choose how to fulfill them. Pampering yourself a little bit each day is proven to increase self-confidence and overall mental health. Taking the time to treat yourself as well as you treat your loved ones is necessary for achieving overall mental and physical wellbeing.

Prioritizing your needs by incorporating Self Care into your daily routine not only boosts your mental and physical health but it enhances your ability to be the best you for the people who mean the most to you. By trying to get quality sleep, expressing your feelings through journaling, moving your body, and pampering yourself, you’re putting on your “oxygen mask” first! We hope to see you practicing Self Care here at EnhanceMD soon and treating yourself to our variety of services.
